What is the point in owning expensive camera equipment if you are afraid to take it out into the world and make full use of it? A decent camera bag offers portability and protection to your equipment. It's the second most important choice to protect your equipment after camera insurance.

When choosing a bag, the first thing to consider is the size required. Are you looking for something to store a whole camera system, easy to grab and stick in the back of your car, or are you looking for a small bag that is easy and comfortable to carry wherever you go, with enough space for a basic selection of camera, lens, flash etc. It sounds obvious enough, but it's amazing how many people end up with a camera bag that looks great, but is so bulky it spends most of it's life in the back of a cupboard.

Other Key Considerations

Comfort:
if your going to carry heavy kit for hours at a time, it's worth choosing a camera bag with padded shoulder straps. I find a camera rucksack ideal for extended carrying

Durability: good quality camera bags and cases might cost a little more, but when you consider the value of what they are protecting, a few extra dollars is likely to be a good investment.

Weight: cameras can be heavy enough to carry, you don't want to add to that unnecessarily.

Waterproofing: when it rains, it pours, and most cameras have a strong dislike for moisture, especially digital cameras where it plays havoc with circuitry. If you're going to be out in the elements it's worth considering a waterproof camera bag.

Access: easy to get into and well organised with frequently used items always at your fingertips

We have scoured the internet to find the best retailers with the widest selection of camera bags and camera cases for you, wherever you are in the world. All the top brands can be found, like Lowepro, Tamrac, Samsonite, Eagle Creek and Billingham, as well as some less well known manufacturers.

Whether you need a small case to protect a digital camera, or a large rucksack to carry several cameras, lenses and accessories, we are sure you will find something perfect for your needs through the links on this page.

Tell us about your camera bag. What do you love or hate about it? Would you recommend it to others?
I have been using Billingham bags for over five years now and have no complaints. The quality of workmanship is excellent. I love the fact that to the average person they don't look like camera bags. I hate to advertise that I am carrying alot of expensive gear. They do cost a little extra, but with five years of rough treatment and not a stitch giving way, I think they're a bargain!
